Language.

English is an official language and is particularly cultivated by the people of Indian origin. The other official language is French. The language of communication is the usual Marisyen, a creole language built on the French. Many Indian and Chinese immigrants still speak their native tongues.

Economy

The main product is sugar in Mauritius, which was once the No. 3 producer in the world. Other important agricultural products are tea and tobacco. The economy is diversified, with tourism as one of the main economic activities. The island has instituted the first free zone in the Indian Ocean

            Meaning:
  • Red, the struggle for freedom and Indepedence.
  • Blue, the Indian Ocean in the middle of which Mauritius is.
  • Yellow, the new light of independence shining over the island.
  • Green, agriculture in the island and its color during the twelve months of the year.


Population.

The population of Mauritius is composed of people from diverse backgrounds, mostly of Indian origin (68%) and the rest of European origin, African, Chinese and Malagasy. The country has about 1.2 million inhabitants, the most populous cities of Port Louis (148.780), Beau Bassin (108.685), Vacoas-Phoenix (105.602), Curepipe(82.904) and Quatre Bornes (79.857), second 2005 data.

Discovery.





 The island was discovered by the Portugueses in 1505. It was first colonized by the Dutch in 1638, and named in honor of Prince Maurice of Nassau. The French controlled the island during the eighteenth century and renamed it  of " Îlle de France". The island was taken by the British in 1814, which restored its former name.
 Independence came in 1968, but Mauritius has remained as head of state the monarch the UK and only became a republic in 1992, being a member of the Commonwealth.
  The island has a stable democracy with regular free elections and human rights.

Mauritius is a country in the Indian Ocean, comprising the easternMascarene Islands (Mauritius and Rodrigues) and two archipelagosof islets further north, the islands and Cargados Carajos and Agalega.Mauritius still dispute with Madagascar and France the island ofTromelin. Its closest neighbors are the French department of Reunion, to the west, and the Seychelles to the north. Its capital is Port Louis. Form along with Libya and the Seychelles, the group ofAfrican countries.
And the local climate is tropical, modified by southeast winds, it ispredominantly warm, with a dry winter and rainy summer.
